Innovation Development Advisor
Edith Cowan University
Neil came to Australia 16 years ago and has made WA his home after initiating a career in London, Paris, New York and Bangkok. After managing companies for others over the years, Neil decided in 2006 to start his own business. He established an international organisation in 2006, drawing on an extensive international network and past business expertise. After 5 years of operation, working 18 hours a day and focussing his efforts entirely on the business, in 2011 he identified an international corporate partner and distributed 60 percent of the shares and took on the role of a silent partner in an effort to regain a work-life balance.
Neil was then recruited by ECU to advise on industry and community partnerships, a position in which he achieved great success and personal reward. At the beginning of 2015 he was promoted to the Office of Research and Innovation, advising businesses, mentoring individuals and providing consultation to government and industry bodies. Additionally, he has prioritised identifying research opportunities for businesses of all sizes and gaining supporting grants through a variety of channels. A keen cyclist and surfer, he has found the balance that he sought.
Now working in a dream job identifying research opportunities for ECU researchers with our existing and emerging industry partners. Innovation, commercialisation and entrepreneurship are central to the position.
